The spread of coffee to Asia
The Arabians could not spread coffee in Asia but the Dutch did! In the process of Dutch colonization, they grew coffee in Maraba, Indiaand brought coffee to Batavia in Java, Indonesia in 1699. The Dutch colonies were once the supplying place of the coffee in Europe. At present, Indonesia is the forth biggest coffee exporter in the world.
The spread of coffee to Europe
The merchants of Venice first brought coffee to Europe in 1615. The first cafe in Europe was opened in Venice, and the most famous one is Caffe Florian situated in St. Mark’s Square, Venice. It is opened in 1720 and may rightfully claim to be one of the city’s symbols.
The spread of coffee to American Continent
In 1668, coffee, as a fashion beverage, became very popular inSouth America. And soon did the cafe. The cafes showed up one after another in some North American Cities like New York, Philadelphiaand Boston. The famous New York Stock Exchange in the Financial District in Wall Street and the Bank of New York are all originated from cafe. Coffee was first grown in the American Continent during the 1980s. Again, it is the Dutch who brought coffee to the central and southern America. It was spread from the Dutch colonies to Guiana and Brazil, which were then French colonies, and later was brought to Jamaica by the British. By the year 1925, planting coffee had become a tradition in the central and southern America and in the same year, in Hawaii, the only place of coffee production inAmerica, people started to grow coffee. Hawaii coffee is also one of the best coffees in the world. So far, Brazil is the biggest coffee production country, accounting for 30% of all the coffee output in the world, while Columbia ranks second with 12% of market share.
The spread of coffee into China
According to the historical record, coffee was first grown in Taiwanin 1884, which turned over a new leaf to the development of coffee industry in China. The earliest coffee planting in China’s mainland was in Yunan. At the beginning of the 20th century, a French missionary brought the some coffee seedlings to Binchuan County in Yunan province. Over the following 100 years, the planting and consumption of coffee took root over the vast territory in China and during recent years it started to catch international attention. As a part of western lifestyle, coffee culture has developed and entered Chinese families and daily life, becoming a new consumption fashion…….. The coffee tradition that has existed in the western society for hundreds of years has spread to the East, forging a…romantic and fashionable social trend.
